A woman in a teal swimsuit steps into a timber-clad plunge tub, holding the rail, while a crew member beside her explains.

The Shallow is where most people have their first cold dip. It’s a few degrees warmer than The Deep and shallow enough to stand in, so you can go in to your knees, your waist or all the way, one step at a time.

It fits two, which helps. Go in with a friend, count out loud, laugh at each other. Right next to it is the bucket: pull the rope and a load of cold water lands on your head. Very efficient.
