Staying safe at Quench

Heat and cold are strong stuff. Most people are fine, some need to check with a doctor first, and everyone should read this before booking.

Before you come

Please check with a doctor before using a sauna or cold plunge if any of these apply to you.

Quench is for ages 16 and up. Guests aged 16 and 17 must come with an adult who stays with them for the whole round.

Check with your doctor first if:

You’re pregnant, or might be.

You have a heart condition, or have had chest pain, a heart attack or a stroke.

You have high or low blood pressure.

You have epilepsy or have had seizures.

You’ve had surgery recently, or have an open wound.

You take medication that affects your heart rate, blood pressure or how you handle heat.

You have a breathing condition, such as asthma.

You have diabetes or reduced feeling in your hands or feet.

You’ve recently been unwell with a fever or infection.

If you’re unsure, consult your doctor before you visit.

In the sauna

Start with short sessions, in The Soft Room, on a lower bench.

Get out straight away if you feel dizzy, sick, faint or just not right.

Drink water before you come and between rounds.

No alcohol before or during your visit. We’ll turn away anyone who’s been drinking.

Sit up slowly and stand for a moment before you walk.

Only the crew pours water on the stones.

Take off metal jewellery. It gets hot.

In the cold

Never plunge alone. Make sure someone knows you’re going in.

Walk in slowly using the steps and handrail. No jumping or diving.

Keep your breathing slow. If you can’t, get out.

Keep your head above the water.

One to three minutes is the most anyone needs. Much less is fine.

Get out if you’re shivering hard or your fingers go clumsy.

After your round

Rest before you leave. Sit, warm up gradually and drink some water.

Don’t drive until you feel fully yourself.

Wrap up warm if it’s cold outside.

If you feel unwell later on, get medical help.

Our crew

There’s always a crew member on the floor, checking the rooms and the tubs through every slot. Every one of them is first-aid trained, and we keep a first-aid kit and a defibrillator on site.

If the crew asks you to take a break, please do. They’re looking out for you, not timing you.

You can tell us about any condition when you book, or with a quiet word at the desk. It stays between you and the crew.

This isn’t medical advice

Everything on this site is general information. It isn’t medical advice, and it can’t replace a conversation with a doctor who knows you.

If you’re unsure, consult your doctor before you visit.
