A club built around a stove

Quench started with two friends, a secondhand stove and a yard nobody else wanted. It’s grown a bit since.

Four crew members in black T-shirts joke with each other beside the plunge tubs in the courtyard.

How it started

Marisol and Tobi met in a cold lake at 7am, both pretending they weren’t freezing. They kept meeting there, and kept wishing there was somewhere warm nearby to sit afterwards that wasn’t a car.

A few years ago they found an empty workshop at the back of Coldwater Yard. Marisol built the first stove from a secondhand wood heater; Tobi threw a party to pay for the tubs. About forty people came. Most of them still do.

Now there are two saunas, two tubs, a bucket, a fire pit and a crowd that runs from 7am swimmers to the Friday records lot. Still independent. Still loud on Fridays.

What we believe

Company first

People come for the heat and stay for each other. We built the place around the fire pit, not the front desk.

No experts needed

No special kit, no routine, no stopwatch. Sit down, stand up, get cold if you want.

Plain prices

One price per round, towels included, no upselling at the desk.

Room for everyone

Every body, every age from 16, every level of tolerance for cold water. Shuffle up and say hello.

The crew

Marisol

Co-founder, stove keeper

Splits the wood, lights the stoves and can tell the temperature by the sound of the door.

Tobi

Co-founder, runs the socials

Books the records, picks the playlists and has never once let a Friday finish early.

Ines

Sauna master, leads Aufguss

Can move more hot air with one towel than seems physically reasonable.

Kwame

Front of house, first-timer tours

Remembers your name by round two and your tea order by round three.
